Consolidating logistics bases
Customers using multiple logistics bases also use multiple plants, which results in congested transportation routes and inefficient transportation and distribution systems. Because the environmental impact of these systems was large, due to their greenhouse gas (CO2) emissions, the improvement of the efficiency of logistics and the reduction of its environmental impact were issues that customers were concerned about.
Consolidating the logistics bases of customers wishing to streamline inefficient systems will improve efficiency of their transportation and distribution systems and reduce the number of delivery trucks to each base terminal, resulting in the reduction of CO2 emissions.
A goal of the Act on Advancement of Integration and Streamlining of Distribution Business (Logistics Efficiency Improvement Act), implemented on October 1, 2005, is the promotion of businesses that contribute to the streamlining of logistics and the reduction of environmental impact through the consolidation of logistics bases, rather than vertically divided logistics (e.g. specialized in transportation or storage only), and the comprehensive integration of transportation, distribution, storage, logistics processing and other tasks. These business plans are certified as a "comprehensive efficiency plan" and supported by the authorities. The Act is revolutionary in terms of its promotion of logistics reform.
Our Sakurajima Distribution Center No.2 North Building in Osaka prefecture began operating in November 2005, and the business plan for it (streamlining logistics and reducing environmental impact by consolidating bases, joint delivery, etc.) was certified by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism as the first comprehensive efficiency plan based on the Act.
Since then, Sakurajima Distribution Center No.3 began operating in April 2008, Tobishima Distribution Center in Nagoya prefecture began operating in November of the same year, and Misato Distribution Center in Saitama prefecture began operating in December of the same year. They have also been certified by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Particularly in Osaka, we are performing the joint delivery of cargo from Sakurajima Distribution Centers No.2 and 3, with the goal of further reducing environmental impact, and strengthening and promoting environmental management.
